What Should I Wear to My Massage Appointment?
The Body Wellness Clinic | Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire
First-time massage clients often worry about what happens once they’re on the table — and what they should (or shouldn’t) be wearing. The honest answer is: whatever you’re comfortable in.
You’re Always in Control
You’ll be asked to undress to your own level of comfort — some clients prefer to keep underwear on, others don’t. Whatever you choose is completely normal. You’ll be covered with a sheet or towel throughout the treatment, and only the area being worked on is uncovered at any time.
There’s a private space to change before and after your session, so you can get ready in your own time.
Does It Depend on the Treatment?
For most full-body treatments like holistic, deep tissue or aromatherapy massage, you’ll undress fully or partially and lie under the sheet. For a sports massage focused on the legs, loose shorts can be helpful. For an Indian head massage, you’ll usually need to remove clothing on your upper body, since the treatment covers the whole of the back, shoulders, arms, neck, face and head.
Practical Tips
Wear something comfortable and easy to change out of before you arrive, avoid heavy makeup or lotion on the day if you’re having a facial or scalp-focused treatment, and let your therapist know beforehand if you’d prefer to keep certain items of clothing on — they’ll always work around it.
